Product sheets are the documents containing all the information regarding a single item or possibly a sales service. The descriptive content present in the product sheet must include: the product name, any family or range it belongs to, and the technical features. Among the data highlighting the technical features, there must be dimensions, weights, manufacturing materials, possible expiration dates, etc. A brief product description highlighting the qualities and benefits for the potential buyer should not be forgotten, along with any photographs of the product and some details.
By law, in order to offer a product to customers, it must be accompanied by a product sheet in which the potential customer can find all the characteristics that distinguish the item. The information in the product sheet must allow the consumer to fully evaluate the value of the good being purchased. It should be considered that depending on the product's sector, the product sheet will include data and sector-specific information.
For example, if the product sheet pertains to a food item, the main information to include is:

  • commercial name,
  • selling name,
  • article code,
  • shelf life,
  • product description,
  • usage instructions,
  • storage
In the case of food items, the following should also be highlighted:

  • ingredients,
  • possible cooking time,
  • allergen information,
  • origin of main ingredients
  • possible presence of GMOs
Among the product characteristics to include, there must be organoleptic characteristics and nutritional values (usually expressed in grams per 100 grams of product). In addition to these characteristics, chemical standards, microbiological standards, and physical standards should also be included. An important aspect not to be overlooked are the characteristics related to the sales unit and packaging, including primary packaging, packaging characteristics, and pallet characteristics.
Product sheets for items related to heating and cooling systems are generally much more detailed than a food product sheet. When analyzing the information contained in these types of sheets, we can list the following data to consider:

  • product description,
  • technical data (usually divided between heating, sanitary category, heating operation, sanitary operation),
  • ERP technical data (where we find data on thermal power, efficiency,
  • auxiliary electrical consumption (and other parameters for combined heating devices)
The technical data referring to the Law 10 table (maximum thermal power, minimum thermal power, efficiency, combustion, emission values). Technical data are typically accompanied by dimensions, structural data, captions for structural elements, drawings and captions related to the hydraulic circuit and its connections and fittings, exhaust and air intake graphs, electrical diagrams, and control panels.
To be introduced to the market, any product must be accompanied by its product sheet. Law April 10, 1991 n.126, named "Consumer Information Regulations", specifically defines what a product sheet is, what data and information it must contain, who should edit it, and when; these same indications were reaffirmed in 2005 with the Consumer Code (Legislative Decree September 6, 2005, n. 206).
Introducing products to the market without the so-called product sheet results in a penalty for the manufacturer or importer ranging from €561.46 to €25,822.84, and the same penalty applies if false data or information are present. The data that must be provided about the product do not necessarily have to be exclusively on the product sheet but can also be printed on the label or various markings, as long as they are clearly visible and accessible to the consumer.
The product sheet is important because it is the most appropriate tool that ensures compliance with current regulations, according to which "the sale of any product or product package on national territory that does not reproduce in Italian and in clearly visible and legible forms the indications in Article 1 of Law April 10, 1991 n. 126" is prohibited.
Below are some indications from Article 1 of Law April 10, 1991 n. 126, which came into force on 01/05/1991: - The indications regarding products marketed on national territory must be written in Italian, clear, and visible and readable. They must be included on the product or packaging. These indications must relate to: - The legal name of the product - The brand or company name of the manufacturer or importer - Any presence of harmful substances to human health - Information on precautions and intended use of the product for safety and better use - It is essential to comply with the obligation to provide the required information as per the law, keeping in mind that they must be visible and legible.
Remember that a product sheet is a document containing all the information about a single item or possibly a sales service. To create one, there are numerous factors to consider, from specific rules for entering information to visual structure.
Ideally, it would be best to have industry professionals handle it.
The font size that ensures the legibility of information, including technical data, is generally between 8 and 12 points. Indicating a range of sizes, not an exact size, depends mainly on the font used, the background, and the text length. Going below 8 points may be acceptable for supplementary notes, but always considering the font type. It is always advisable to avoid going below 6 points, a size used in contract clauses, which is not very legible.
Certainly, we would be happy to consider your specific needs and offer you a customized offer.
